Cool temps across Bay Area Tuesday

Posted

(BCN) -- Tuesday in the Bay Area calls for partly sunny skies, with cloud cover and patchy fog in multiple parts of the region, according to the National Weather Service.

Daytime highs will be mostly in the low to mid 60s on the coast and around the bay, and mid to high 60s inland. Overnight lows will be in the mid to high 40s.

Cool temps and gusty onshore winds are expected across the Bay Area on Tuesday, with stronger wind gusts along the coast and at higher elevations, according to the NWS.

Patches of low clouds are developing over higher elevations in the region and Central Coast, with some clouds also over Monterey Bay. The clouds could spread through the morning before clearing by late morning or early afternoon, the weather service says.

Gentle to moderate onshore winds are expected to develop Tuesday afternoon, with gusts of 20 to 30 mph along the coast, through favored gaps and passes, and at ridgelines.

Minor coastal flooding is also possible during high tide along the shores of San Pablo Bay, San Francisco Bay and Monterey Bay, as well as along the Pacific coast. The risk comes from high astronomical tides combined with higher water levels linked partly to the expansion of warmer water.

At the San Francisco tidal gauge, high tide is forecast to reach 2.1 feet above normal, or 7.9 feet above mean lower low water, at 12:15 p.m. The forecast includes about 1.2 feet of additional water from a surge effect partly attributed to El Niño.
